Analogue - Days 9 - 16

Day 9

The first Official Friday Class!  Tim got us pizza and sandwiches, and we checked out some more realistic proportions for background characters.  We settled somewhere between Dennis' and Austins (Pg 2 and 3), shown below.

In addition to that, a beautiful flower called the Bougainvillea (paper flower) was made a huge aspect of our film today.  Pictured below

We also got Becca started on doing some texture exploration for buildings.

Day 10

While the background characters are being finalized, Hero proportions were locked down today.  (spoiler alert, they end up changing)

Environment team also got some really nice color studies (Shannon Hallstein and Steven Roberson's art pictured below)

Rebecca Baker got started on some texture exploration and it looks really awesome.  More to come next update!

Day 11

The Background characters are locked and ready for modeling, a week ahead of schedule.  Here's some new clothes and such on top of the silhouettes, courtesy of our Character Team.

We also got started on storyboards, which are set to be finished by the 19th.  We should be on track for that.

Rebecca Also continued exploring textures, now achieving a more painterly feel

Day 12

The character team got lots of spreadsheets so that the modelers can start on those background character's clothes.

Rebecca continued to explore textures, and the environment team was mostly working on boards this week.  Check out the Storyboards page for the finalized boards!

Day 13

Lots of great stuff today!  Fantastic finished boards, some really great beat boards and color studies bySteven Roberson and Shannon Hallstein.

Kyle finished the first pass at the background character, found here:  https://skfb.ly/6wBCM

Rebecca started looking with our new Texture Artist, Sunny, to look into a watercolor texture that should look really cool when they pull it off!

Our Character Team also got some really great hero character studies, and some really interesting questions about her face shape.  It allowed us to lock down exactly what she should look like, which is fantastic.

Day 14

Now that we finally had our character locked, Professor John Webber, myself, and the two character leads Dennis and Ana met to discuss pushing proportions of her body.  We ended up with some really good stuff that echoed a lot of the original ideas for body shape.  Below are the new proportions of our character.  She has a lot more character now, and looks a lot more interesting as well as quirky, which is definitely what we were going for.  It was a really good meeting, and even though we ended up changing the character a lot, it made a lot of our art directors and leads happy, which is important in achieving their vision for the film.

Sunny got pretty far in the watercolor texture update (Spoiler alert, not as far as hes going to get)  It looks very much like watercolor, but unfortunately still has a lot of problems, especially with a moving camera.  The current idea is to script it so that the texture follows the camera, but he and Rebecca are looking into other methods.

Day 15

Becca and Sunny are getting really close to an endgame with this shader, now the watercolor is working a lot better, check it out!

The character Crew put together an awesome pdf, featuring our new animal characters, a seagull and a cat

Day 16

Wow did Becca and Sunny knock it out of the park this time!  Becca put together an awesome motion blur effect for our shader that makes it look as if the texture is bleeding over the lines.

Gabi Leonhard has been knocking boards out the park as well, having done about half of the scenes herself.  Check out the boards page for more!

Kang Hui also worked with some really cool 2D characters in 3D environment

At this point, I'd like to take a moment to appreciate this team and all theyve been working on.  This film is definitely going to succeed and its all thanks to each and every one of them.
